Volumes
DESIGN: MIEKE CUPPEN
Volumes are objects that add value and function to a plate. By upgrading an ordinary plate and extending its functionality, food receives the attention it deserves and is literally elevated to another level.
Whether amuse bouche, dessert, appetiser, side dish or buffet – the geometric porcelain objects from the Volumes collection take gourmet creations to a new level and put them in the spotlight. The cubes, cuboids, cones in two sizes and semi-spheres can be added to any platter or plate to expand the serving surface and extend the functionality. They may be used individually or as a group.
CONE
large, height 12 cm, Ø foot 6.2 cm
small, height 5.4 cm, Ø foot 3 cm
The two cones invite the user to stage food in creative ways and to experiment with their different heights.
CUBE
height, width, length 7.6 cm
Just like on a stage, gourmet creations shine in a culinary and visual way on the solid pedestal created by the cube.
CUBOID
height 1.2 cm, width 21 cm, length 6 cm
The rectangular area of the cuboid provides space for the side-by-side arrangement of several elements – either in precise alignment or in an orchestrated chaos.
SEMI-SPHERE
height 4.3 cm, Ø foot 12.4 cm
Whether sweet or savoury – thinly slice food can be attractively displayed on or next to the semi-sphere.
Volumes creates a completely new style of table setting without the need for new tableware. The transparent silicone application Magic Grip at the bottom of the objects ensures a secure footing and prevents slipping.
Let your imagination run free and serve sushi, carpaccio, smoked fish, chocolates or creations from the molecular cuisine in a new way.
Dutch designer Mieke Cuppen founded her own design studio in 2009, shortly after graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven. In 2011 she won the first prize at the Mercure Culture Award, and in 2016 she received a scholarship from the Creative Industries Fund NL. In the summer of 2018, she participated in the 7th International Porcelain Workshop KAHLA kreativ where she realised her concept for Volumes.
„With this design, I experimented with a new approach to tableware: one that sparks inspiration and conversation and extends the function of existing objects. I am inspired by the work processes of professional
chefs and their parallels to the work of designers. With my designs, I‘d like to provide chefs with a canvas that allows them to express their creativity.“
